You do not need every finish on the planet
Two habits that beat a poster
- Leave even. 40, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2 are friends. Odd leftovers after a sloppy treble are how legs get long.
- T20 until it is checkout time — unless you are on a number that wants T19 (some 99s, some 67s). Beginners who “mix it up” miss more.
A short working table
| Score left | Usual idea | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 170 | T20 T20 bull | Famous. Rare. Do not build a personality on it. |
| 100 | T20 D20 | Clean. |
| 80 | T20 D10 | Or 16s if you live on 16. |
| 40 | D20 | The pub default. |
| 32 | D16 | Bounce-out still leaves a double. |
| 16 / 8 / 4 / 2 | Halve down | Panic is how you hit 1. |
Full charts live on walls. Use one if you like. The rules of 501 still require a double out unless your house has agreed otherwise — say so before the first dart.
Practice that is not a montage
Throw at one double for five minutes. Then 32. Then 40. That is more useful than cycling a 170 you will not see on a Tuesday. Technique.
