If you cannot see the wire, you cannot hit it

What works

SetupVerdict
Dedicated ring / bar lightBest. Even light, little shadow from the player.
Cabinet with LED stripGood for electronic and enclosed sisal cabinets.
Two wall spots left and right of the boardFine if you aim them at the face, not at your eyes.
Overhead room light onlyFail.

Practical rules

  • Light the face, not the thrower.
  • Avoid a bulb behind your shoulder.
  • Warm white is easier in a pub-ish room; ice-blue LED makes wires glitter and then disappear.
  • If the board is in a garage, dust the light as well as the sisal.

Pair with setup (height and oche) and first home board. A dedicated dartboard light does more for scoring than a new set of flights. Cabinet LED strips are the fallback if the board already lives in a cabinet. Accessories if you want a surround that also hides the wall.
